Exploring Food and Wine in the Grampians

Food, wine, autumn - what a combo when you bunker down at Halls Gap Accommodation. Our three unique properties are the perfect launching pad to loads of good stuff across The Grampians in autumn.

The region’s foodie options are like a picnic rug at your door step and are easy pickings from local provedores, markets and cafés or direct from the grower. At the height of autumn, local food and wine comes together at The Grampians Grape Escape - Wine and Food Festival, a month of events that culminates April 30 and May 1.

grampiagns great escapeDiscover Greenvale Farm Pork and Hopkins River Beef, where a love of the local environment and respect for their animals combines to produce a product that is distinctively Victorian. The region’s striking mountain peaks sit alongside productive olive groves like Red Rock Olives and Mount Zero Olives; ready to tempt you with a mix of condiments and traditional olive treatments from Italy, Spain, Greece and France.

Kick back with your favourite people while enjoying local cheeses passionately crafted using goat, sheep and dairy milk. As you wonder keep an eye out for names like L’Artisan Organic Cheese, Shaw River Buffalo Cheese and Apostle Whey Cheese. Add some flair to that platter with the Salami Shack and the Screaming Seeds Spice Co, both bring an extra dimension to your Grampians Grape Escape. While handmade butter toffee, rocky road and salted caramel from Dickin’s Delights will more than satisfy the sweet tooth.

These soils and climate breed wine, beer and cider that are a great reward to your autumn foodie chase. You’ll be drawn to explore Best’s Wines, Blue Pyrenees Estate, Flying Brick Cider and Red Duck Brewery to name a few. Adding another layer to your “hunter and gatherer” Grampians experience is Simply Teatime, promising unique and beautiful teas that aim to capture the story of our region.

It’s a menu that brings celebrity chef Migual Maestre to Halls Gap for the festival. Take part in a masterclass and bring some of Migual’s Spanish flair home, along with a host of other new food ideas from the region’s best chefs. Other festival highlights include “Duck-Duck-Mousse”, grape stomping (gee that sounds like fun!), “Pork and Pinot” and Kate Ceberano live on May 1.

Whatever time it is you make to get away and join us at Halls Gap Accommodation will be marked by the best regional food and wine, but especially so now with that mix of autumn red, orange and yellow.

Why not come to Halls Gap and add your taste to the mix?
